Hastings West Hill Boxing Club opened its doors to recreational Boxing.
Eight members of the popular and successful Hastings West Hill Boxing Club completed the GB Boxing Tutor Course recently ready for the new season.
The GB Boxing Tutor Course proved very popular with the club as 5 boxers, one female two coaches and the club chairman attended.
The course was ran in the boxing club at Hastings by GB Boxing Performance Coach Quinton (“Q”) Shillingford MBE. “Q” will also be assisting in setting up the recreational side of the boxing club.
The programme is part of the Network Rail safety message and uses the GB Boxing Awards programme to pass on the railway safety message to the young people in the community.
The GB Boxing Tutor Course, boxing equipment (Skipping Ropes/ Gloves) and 20 GB Boxing Awards booklets and medals have been sponsored by Network Rail
Network Rail who have sponsored the GB Boxing Awards programme, as a tool to deliver the Network Rail safety message to young people.
Network Rail Safety Manager Nicola Dooris commented: “Network Rail feel that the GB Boxing Awards is a great tool to deliver the Network Rail – “Railway safety message” to young people and at the same time boosting the participation in boxing in schools and communities. Caring for the community around railway safety is our number one priority.”
West Hill Club chairman John Badrock said “These are really exciting times for West Hill Boxing Club and now that we have our Boxing Tutors in place we can reach further into the community and make the sport more accessible.
The time we spent with “Q” was fantastic and has given us a new approach to teaching boxing, all those who attended were impressed with the content and structure of the course along with the supporting material each coach gets”
West Hill boxer Belinda Skinner who has only been boxing for 18 months yet has already won an ABA national title and two Haringey Cup gold medals said “I can’t wait to get started teaching the youngsters and putting something back into the sport that has been great for me and we also get to deliver a very important message to keep children away from the railway tracks”
